The Red Flag of Scotland

Yesterday, I was playing a bit with hybrid flags (as you can see in my previous post), and I had a weird idea. I took a Confederate Flag and, with Inkscape, I made a hybrid Scottish flag out of it.

The result is indeed weird, and rather ugly in my opinion. However, what is interesting to me are all the contradictions that this hybrid flag bears in itself.

On the one hand, it can be considered somehow reminiscent of the Union Jack, but leaving the English flag out. Just the Scottish flag plus a kind-of-socialist version of the Cross of St Patrick, representing Ireland.

On the other, if we consider that this flag was made from the Confederate Flag, we would have some sort of left wing – right wing contraction.
